Gerri, I had hip dysplasia. It was my right hip only, as is my mother's and my son's. I can tell you that the pain is miserable. It causes you to avoid walking and standing and you become sedentary, which isn't good for the rest of your body.
I was lucky, I'm one of the larger breeds that can have a hip replacement, but it cost over $25,000.
