At what age, if ever do puppies quit chewing the house up?

Subject: [CKCS-L] Raising winter litters

I would like to know how other breeders who live in an area with fairly
cold winters (Kentucky), deal with winter litters. My spring litters,
born in April or so, are ready and willing to go outside when they are
quite young. I have a huge double fenced area for them, and they are
safe to roam. Inside, there is only their Central Metal whelping pen in
my family room. I have French doors that prohibit puppies from going
into the living room/dining room areas, so they are free to roam the
kitchen/pantry/family room area. The one winter litter I raised ate
pieces from the leather furniture and did a good job of tooth sanding
the wooden tables, all antique. I certainly can't keep them locked up in
the whelping box for 10 weeks. Any suggestions, other than removing all
of my furniture?? Rosanne
