Well my story isn't all that strange, but it sure was comical at the time.
I was staying in a motel in Delaware with a puppy, and had not checked as to whether they allowed dogs or not. (I had learned long ago that "don't ask, don't tell" could save a traveler from being on the road forever with no place to stay). Annnyhow, my husband called and while we were chatting the puppy (unbeknownst to me), was happily chewing on the phone cord. It wasn't very long before I knew it though, as we were completely cut off. I didn't know what to do - I knew my husband would be trying to call back and would get frightened if the phone just rang and rang. I didn't want to admit to the front desk what had happened, so I started peeling the plastic stuff off the wires - with my teeth - (hey I was in a hurry), thinking that I could twist the wires back together and get connected. Meanwhile my husband is calling and every time the phone rings, I get a shock, at just about the time my hair was standing up on end, the door opened - the manager had become concerned and came down to check on me - there stood I - with a puppy bounding around my feet - and the phone cord in my mouth. That is probably the most busted I have every been in my life. (Well, except for the time in high school when my parents got home early from their regular Friday nite bowling league, and my regular Friday nite party was in full swing, but that's another story). Needless to say, from then on in, any puppies in the room were crated while I was on the phone.
