Lynda. Not quite. A new rule makes it mandatory that you wait until your boy is 9 months old. You can still breed your girl at one year according to CKCSC, but only if you feel she is sufficiently "mature" to be bred. And, you are right. You don't have to test for diddly. So....for all that people yak yak yak about the famous code of ethics, you are still quite free to breed your 9 month old puppy boy to your 12 month old puppy girl, test for nothing and register the litter CKCSC USA. However.....and this is an important distinction: If you breed your 5 year old fully tested dual registered bitch to a 10 year old fully tested AKC stud dog, you cannot register the litter and you run the risk of being kicked out of CKCSC USA. The old club, after all, is the 'protector' of the breed, and all the pet owners are VERY concerned about the health of the breed, doncha know. Myra
