The other thing that I keep wondering about is why the pet people don't understand that we often seek second opinions in medical matters and frequently do not take the advice of our MDs based on other information we have. (any of you out there still smoking??) We have the option of studying, reading, talking to repro specialists and making decisions that make sense to us. We won't wait until one of our girls is 2.5 years old to breed her. We will breed her on her 3rd or 4th season depending on how often she comes in, and that usually puts her at just about 2 years of age give or take a month or so. That is the maximum number of seasons that we will allow the corrosive effects of progesterone on her uterus. In addition to that reasoning, we won't be breeding our girls at 5 or 6 years of age. According to Dr. Hutchison, the definition of an older bitch is any bitch over 5. My guess is that none of these "pet people" have ever even seen a bitch with pyrometra, much less lost one to it.
