It might have been blue, but not a natural blue-- more like the "blue" scarring that sometimes happens from an eye injury or ulcer that was difficult to heal. I don't think that vaccination would cause a blue iris similar to a natural china blue eye in humans, but it sure could cause the "blue" scarring type.
