Hi Sue and Claudia,

Maybe it's just in the northern midwest, or my very
paltry experience at AKC shows, but if my memory is
not failing me, each AKC show I've attended in this
part of the country has had a person sitting at a
table outside of the ring. That person is checking in
dogs/bitches and handing out armbands. Or maybe it's
just a Minnesota-nice thing. Now, whether that person
was officially called an "outside ring steward", I
don't know. What I do know is that my job for this
show, hosted by the St. Croix Valley Kennel Club (Lake
Elmo, MN -- check Onofrio), was called "outside ring
steward," and the button/ribbon they gave me to wear
said "ring steward".

I'm glad you found my post "interesting." I was
hoping people would find it *amusing*. Thank you to
all of the listers who emailed me privately that they
enjoyed reading my post. I certainly experienced my
weekend as a fun, laughable, good time. I also
sincerely hoped to encourage other newcomers to get
involved in working the other side of the ring. Local
kennel clubs need all the volunteers they can find to
put on a good show.

Thank you, Kim (Baillie), for identifying me as an
okay person while I was away at work for most of the
day.

Some months ago I recall a brief discussion about how
very many people there are who are members of this
list, contrasted with how very few (relatively
speaking) actually find the courage to post. I have a
thick skin. I am not going away. I'm having a blast
doing the dog show thing. My whole family (husband
and kids) is getting involved, so it's quality time
for us. We are looking forward to our next cavalier.
Teddy is a dream! I might not be the most active
poster to this list, but I'm here reading EVERY word
and posting when I think I have something to say that
no one has already said. (Do an archive search and
you'll see some of the posts I've made.) But I'd like
to venture a guess that not ALL novices are so quickly
devoted, nor do they have such a thick skin from the
gitgo. So might I offer a suggestion that when you
see a fun post from someone with a name you don't
recognize that you ask yourself if your post adds any
value to the discussion, or does it perhaps scare away
someone who might be a valuable and interesting future
contributor to this list? Enuf said.

to make this state a place known for some reputable
cavalier breeders and show people) (we're not ALL
puppy millers/brokers)
and Teddy (who is sick tonight -- I'm staying up all
night to keep an eye on him)

It's late. I'm tired. I'm worried about Teddy. My
son's hamster died today. I've had a LONG day.
Forgive me if I'm being too harsh, or taking
personally what was not meant to be personal.
