Hi Laura,

I'm wondering if some vertebrae are out of alignment, and some spinal
manipulation may be in order. We have a wonderful DVM around here
(Cleveland) whose services are limited to chiropractic, acupunture or
physical therapy. He's excellent and works on dogs and horses. Anyway, it
seems that continual pacing could be the result of compensation for
something out-of-whack somewhere. Since it sounds like the pacing became
more pronounced at an earlier age, I'm not sure whether the shaking back
legs are related or not. If you can find a qualified specialist around
your area that people have used successfully, it might be worth having him
go over the spine and get an evaluation. Acupuncture is another wonderful
tool that is now becoming more accepted and can help relieve physical
difficulties. I guess the key is finding a first rate guy who really knows
what he's doing and not some fly-by-night genious flashing around little
needles. I have to admit, the fact that our specialist can also boast a DVM
from Ohio State doesn't hurt!

Subject: [CKCS-L] Pacing

Hi List,
Does anyone know much about the pacing gait in Cavaliers? I have a 10 yr
old who paces almost exclusively. I wonder if it is a neurological defect,
or some fault with the way he is put together. When he was younger, he
would pace when he got tired, but now it is almost all the time. He can go
very fast in a pace. (For those who aren't acquainted with it, the pace is
a gait where both legs on one side of the body move forward and backward at
the same time; instead of coming together on one stride, and stretching in
opposite directions on the next. It's a rolling gait, not smooth and
flowing.)
Also, this may be a different, but occasionally, when he is standing still,
his back legs shake. Parkinsons's for dogs? What do you think? I would be
interested to hear your points of view.
