Hi, Elin - We whelped our first litter this past spring and I would definitely recommend the Whelpwise system! It's an electronic unit that comes with a belt (like a fetal monitor) that you put around your bitch for a little while, a couple of times a day. The unit then communicates by modem to the Whelpwise team who can assess if your bitch is in labor or not and if everything is o.k. It also comes with a small Doppler unit that allows you to find the fetal heartbeats - there's a video that tells you how to use the system and the people are just great ! Unfortunately, the unit I had malfunctioned........but they were very nice and arranged an overnight delivery of another unit.....Wouldn't ya' know - my girl went into labor that night and started delivering around 7:30 A.M. the next morning!! :-(((!! By the time the machine got there, three pups had been born and I was too busy to hook up the new machine.......but, Karen from Whelpwise was on the phone with me, advised me patiently and was a tremendous help to me over the phone......She helped me assess my girl after delivery, advised me when to give oxytocin (for cleanout, afterwards)......The only part that was difficult was finding a vet to provide the oxytocin shots that they recommend.....but, my vet finally came around........For someone like me, a new breeder, Whelpwise gives you some really useful tools to help monitor your bitch and the pups so alot of the guesswork is eliminated. You also have 24 hour access to experienced professionals who can answer your questions and help in your assessments. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them! And so do my girl Lucy and her six pups!! :-)
Good luck!
