I'm sure he told you that, with a platelet count of 3, you need to be extra protective
of your dog. He could literally bleed to death from a simple bump or bruise or fall.
Have you had an anti-platelet antibody checked? Has he received any steroids? (In
humans, this can raise the platelet count in some autoimmune conditions) You probably
want to get him to a vet school if your veterinarian remains at a loss ( I also send
my patients to specialists when their care is beyond the scope of my training). There
may be a veterinary hematologist at the vet school (we send anyone with such abnormal
results as these to a hematologist/oncologist)

Subject: [CKCS-L] Health Question/Low Plateletts
Can anyone tell me about Cavaliers & low platelets? I have an ET with a
platelet count of 3. Last week it was 40 & the vet says normal is 150. He
is perplexed as a complete blood work-up was normal except for this. I would
appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks,
Cindy Koehring
