I just use a big heavy wicker basket that is about 18" round and maybe 6" off
the ground. It has the heavy twining on it so is hard for them to destroy. I
have a few puppies that try their best though  :o)  Nice thing about wicker
is that it fits with the rest of the decor better than plastic. Another thing
you can use are low terracotta pots for outside - also fairly indestructible.
Both the wicker and terracotta can be obtained fairly inexpensively at large
craft stores and gardening shops.
