Hi, Phyllis,
The times I've seen my dogs go off by themselves have invariable been
with pain issues. Ear infection through more serious complaints, they
have often taken themselves to hide in a more quiet setting. My old
samoyed actually climbed into a shower stall years ago when she was
having strokes.

My first thought is that it might be something like an ear infection or
a back pain? Does this Cavalier sleep on the bed? If so, jumping on
and off can hurt the back.

My youngest son is building a set of steps for our dogs (art project) so
that I don't have to lift them on (and more importantly off) the bed.

I would ask the vet to look them over.

Best,

Suze
