If the judges hold true to what I have heard and seen in competition in the UK, i.e. no substance in the coat, no trimming, proper presentation, etc... (and they actually enforce it folks) pro handlers will not catch on in the UK, they can't survive in a world where they have to win based solely on their handling/presentation skills as in my opinion it is the grooming (legal and illegal) and political connections (advertising) that gives them the edge more then anything. Not to say some are not very skilled at handling and presentation. I personally don't think they would find the UK market lucrative enough to show up in numbers. More interesting will be the results if some of the bigger winning dogs in the USA compete over there. (Some came from there originally). IF (and a big IF) these dogs are forced to compete totally naturally and maybe even on non-pro handlers will they win? I think there are some of real quality substance winning here that would find (surprise to some maybe themselves) they CAN win in the UK WITHOUT the fluffing and trimming and pro handler, because the dog is really good quality. Maybe (I'm dreaming) this would lead to them not feeling they needed to employ those tactics over here and the end result would be good for everyone. Of course there are some who win big here who could not win without those extra tidbits and that would also become apparent if they competed in the UK however I doubt few of these dogs will. The owners aren't stupid and this is also why some of the big winners in the AKC that are dual registered do not compete in the CKCSC because they know they could not win in that environment and the real quality of their dog might be questioned.
