I want to follow this up with a thought. MY feeling on this is that hip displasia which DOES effect the dog will be the first thing which I would hear from a pet buyer. If there is crippling hip displasia I would know that well before knowing about retinal folds. So, then I don't see gathering this information twice, especially as there IS some arguement about accuracy of prelims.

Laura, I wasn't asking about whether or not to test for HD. I am asking why PRELIMs? If, in fact, you are testing for hips and evaluating your breeding stock and selling the pups who have less than good on OFA, why not wait until they are two and only test the dogs which you are breeding? I simply can't get my head around the idea of needing to do x-rays on baby puppies; why can't one wait until they are of age to be bred?
