I usually connect with the text based irc tool irssi, I tried with xchat
now, i did connect properly to the #ckrm channel, without doing anything
more.
One thing I am seeing different is that the IP address. I see the IP
address of irc.oftc.net as 140.211.166.18

Thanks. the IP address of irc.oftc.net keeps changing in each try. So that might not be the problem. Can you please check the port number to which xchat tries to con nect for you ?
Are you getting 6667 like this ?
"Connecting to irc.oftc.net (161.53.160.99) port 6667..."
Also can you please let me know your settings for irc.oftc.net , like the server password, connect command, nickserv password etc ? I would cross check these things in my xchat client.
