Thanks Chandra. I will try to see if that is a firewall problem.

Here is what i got(looks same as yours):
------------------------
 Perl interface loaded
 Python interface loaded
* Looking up irc.oftc.net
* Connecting to irc.oftc.net (161.53.160.99) port 6667...
* Connected. Now logging in...
* *** Looking up your hostname...
* *** Checking Ident
* *** Found your hostname

Yesterday was the first time i used xchat. Here is what i did:

- invoked xchat
- added a new network "oftc
- edited that network ("oftc")
- changed "nameserver" to "irc.oftc.net". left port # 6667 alone
- closed the edit window
- selected the network("oftc")
- pressed the "connect" button

It connected happily.

May be it is the firewall. Can you try to connect from outside the
firewall ?

Hope it helps
