It's rather difficult to diagnose without you telling us what the errors are
or where you see them.
I suggest:
mkdir /var/run/clamav
chown clamav:clamav /var/run/clamav
Then put in /usr/local/etc/clamav.conf:
LocalSocket /var/run/clamd.sock
User clamav
However that will depend upon your system
