We're still negotiating the license change with RMS. This is going to
come to a close very soon. It looks like the change will be that all
of Classpath except AWT will be relicensed. RMS was quite adamant on
the AWT issue.

The merge will be a one-time event involving lots of work. Basically
we have to go over all the code, class by class, and pick (or merge)
the one we want.

After that, we've talked about having Classpath be the upstream
provider for libgcj. Paul has also mentioned the possibility of doing
a complete merger, but this hasn't really been discussed yet. (The
AWT thing makes this difficult.)

As to when actual work will start, I don't know. I personally have a
lot on my plate in the coming weeks. I think this is true for most of
the Red Hat Java hackers.

There are infrastructural issues to sort out on the Classpath end of
things, too. Is Classpath moving to subversions? When will
subversions get Gnats installed? Etc. I don't know the answers here.
I also don't know who will do the work, or when it will happen.

On the libgcj end, we already have all the infrastructure. Some
tweaks might be necessary since our goal is to get libgcj into the gcc
tree. This might require something ugly, like renumbering all our PRs
:-(

Hope that answers your questions. Someone will definitely post once
the details are all finalized.

Tom
