I agree that a standard for subdividing the GNU namespace is needed but I
think that it may be a point in keeping as many packages as possible under
the GNU name -- for much of the same reasons as RMS like us to refer to our
OS as GNU/Linux rather than Linux.

For example, when I used the regexp package at work my colleagues were
constantly reminded that they worked with GNU software. Since they typed
'import gnu.regexp.*' all the time, I had a good opportunity to introduce
to them much of the GNU philosophy and stuff like the difference between
the GPL and LGPL, etc. I don't think it would've been the same if regexp
had been under 'com.somedeveloper.regexp' or whatever.

Well anyways, it's just a thought. The real issue is really how to properly
subdivide and manage the packages under 'gnu.*'.
