The problem isn't specific to any one particular NIC, but as often
happens with instructions, they get followed without thinking about
what their impact is.  There needs to be some caution against
unplumb'ing any NIC (so that you can rename) that has been used
to actually access the host.  The problem is most prominent when
you want to rename the NIC of a single NIC system, remotely.
(Or rather, the text should advise you that you can't do this.)
Or maybe you say that it is always safe to rename from the
system console or recommend that you only rename from the
system console?
