I am trying to figure out how I might change something related to the way
recordings (mp3 or wav) appear in your library that is on the left hand
side of Clementine when the program is opened.
The way my library directory is structured: My Music\Recording Artist
Name\Title of Album\Numbered Song Titles.
For some reason all recordings that have various artists in a compilation
never appear under the recording artists name, I use various artists under
Recording Artist Name for these type of recordings when placing them in the
directory. Examples of what I mean are the compilations entitled
"Living in Oblivion, the 80's Greatest Hits Volumes 1 thru 5, or Just
Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the "80's Volumes 1 thru 14.
I started using computer media players with Windows Media Player, when
using that player all the recordings in compilations filed in the directory
under various artists get sorted under the proper recording artists name so
long as the tagging has the recording artists name under Artist and Album
Artist. Amarok or Banshee use the same way of sorting and placing
songs. Songs in the various artists folder that are listed by album
titles and then song titles in numerical order will appear under the
recording artists name when sorted into the library listing in Amarok,
Banshee, and even in the latest version of Rythmbox (Rythmbox has this
strange flaw of not numbering songs number 7 and 8 in the library
listing). The latest versions of Debian's operating system 10 has
dropped Amarok and Banshee, so now I am trying to figure out how to get
Clementine working the same way when sorting out recordings and listing
them under the recording artists' name. This is not to be seen as
Clementine is the last resort, I have used Clementine for years. The one
thing I know that does work is changing how you place recordings in the
directory. For every compilation with various artists you would have to
create a new folder with the album title into all the different recording
artists' folder and then move the one or few songs that are in that
compiliation into that folder, that breaks up the entire album into little
pieces and you loose having the entire recording album in one location
listed in the directory for reference or editing. When you start getting
into one hundred compilations that is a lot of changing, in a compilation
with 20 different recording artists you have to create 20 folders with the
album title that has only one song in each folder. The way Windows
Media Player worked, along with Amarok, and Banshee you had to create only
one folder with the album title as the label of that folder. So my
question is how can I make Clementine work the same way with my music
directory as Windows Media Player, Amarok, Banshee, and the latest version
of Rythmbox when placing songs in compilation albums with a variety of
different recording artists.
