At least on Windows, non-editable text controls have a blinking caret. Just open Properties of any file in Windows Explorer. All the information is displayed in non-editable text controls except for the file name which is in an editable one. The non-editable text controls in Properties dialog have no borders, so no other indication but the blinking caret indicates the control is focused.
