I think it is all a solved problem today. I have a process working well with 
:none, and the source map stuff is excellent. Some tool I used a while back did 
not support :none, and I dropped it, just as you described. I was just thinking 
historically the other settings were a bit of an “attractive nuisance”. Sorry 
to sound argumentative before, I am a huge fan of all this stuff.
