We're not arguing :) Just clarifying the points for other possible
observers of this conversation who may be less knowledgeable about the
rationale for the various knobs.

It's unfortunate that we have so many knobs, but there's a few solid
combinations and we should clearly communicate that in docs,
libraries, tools, and discussions.
