It's good it works for you.

In my eyes Clonezilla only caters to the simplistic point-and-click users.

There is no way to get control over the operations Clonezilla performs
with the current user interface and pointers to information on how to
customize the behaviour are missing.

The "source" is just a dump of random files.

I can get equally useful dump by downloading a random live CD geared
towards disk backups and picking files from it.
