I'm not totally 100% sure about this, but I've heard that MySQL doesn't provide a method for adding table constraints or checks. I've also heard other things which would make it a bad choice for a database solution.
Having said this, you might want to look at a more robust RDBMS such as postgreSQL-http://www2.ca.postgresql.org/. If i'm wrong about the constraints thing, someone please correct me. Take care.
