In my search for a good Linux compatable scanner (that will do a good
job on negatives) I fired this off after recieving feedback from a
driver enquiry.

Thought you folks might be interested (or not)

At any rate does anyone know of a good scanner (preferably 2400dpi) that
can do 35mm negatives (or has an adaptor available) and is 100% Linux
compatable?

I'm curious if Canon is planning on supporting Linux in the future?
Companies like nVidia keep thier code source closed, but still provide
excellent drivers and Linux user's seem quite happy with that. Just
because a driver runs in Linux doesn't mean it needs to Open-Source/GPL.
Please give it some thought, Linux is a great OS with a glowing future.

If you've never tried it and are even the slightest bit curious,
download the knoppix Linux distribution (.iso format)

http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=44

and use EasyCD Creator or something and go to "File" -> "create disk
from image file"

navigate to the file and you're and you're ready to go. Burn it and boot
from it.

No partitions, boot sectors, nothing. It doesn't even need a hard drive,
runs in RAM (provided you have at least 64 meg of it). What are you
waiting for? Enjoy the freedom!
