Subject: (clug-talk) Guidance installing Mandrake 9

I have the new disks from Brian and can read them.  I plan to start trying
to install this afternoon (Saturday) around 3PM.   I wonder if anyone is
around this PM to help guide me thru the process.  I really do believe I
need help.  Here's why:

My (new) computer:  900 MHz  with 256MgRAM and 20 Gig HDD.  I have
installed Win XP Home and Office 95.  All works fine.  I partitioned 4 Gigs
for WinXP and have the remaining 16Gig for Mandrake.

On my first attempt to install Mandrake, I had a few errors, but was able
to get to near the end of the install process where you select booting by
MBR or ____? (forget the term) for Linux and Windows OSs.  I was unable to
get either to accept Linux.

I have a list of errors if that is useful.

My options--I really would just like to get Mandrake installed as simply as
possible.  Ideally, I would like to have dual boot (Win and Linux) but this
is not absolutely necessary, nor is it necessary to have both OS's boot as
of today.

For now, I want to keep the install as simple as possible so I have
selected just Office Workstation.

Options:

1.  Continue trying to install Mandrake with Win XP.
2.  I do not mind reformating the drive (wiping out WinXP) and just
installing Mandrake for now, if that is adviseable.

any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi Barclay,

I would be more than happy to help you install your stuff on Monday or Tuesday? Just let me know when and where.
