I just spent an afternoon helping a friend (a recent CLUG member so he will
also get this) install Mandrake 8.2 on an older AMD 350, 160mb ram, not sure
of MB brand, ATI Mach 64, and what appears to be a fairly generic/OEM sound
card and modem (seen as Ambient Ham Data Fax Voice under Windows 98). Couple
of weird things.

Any suggestions for a known, internal modem/fax and soundcard which will

work

for him.

Another kind person on the list (Namely the helpful Trevor) pointed out
that an
external modem would be the best way to go, but my budget at the moment says
"no." Does anyone know of a business in town that deals with slightly used but
still good things like internal (or external) modems at second-hand prices?

TIA- again,

www.vfxweb.com has some 28.8 Hayes and USRobotics modems for $15.
He is in town and you can arange to pick up there if you can arange to meet him there.
He is there at odd times. If it looks good to you I can pick the stuff up for you and
bring it to the meeting or you can get it from me (near southcentre mall)
He has good stuff generally, excellant deals for old pentiums etc ideal for Linux.
P.S. can anybody tell me if that Creative remote would be easy to set up under SUSE?
