All of your suggestions are being considered Roy, and the possibility of a radio spot would also be great so I will be getting in touch with you later on that one. Although this presentation is intended to be a forum for open source and linux facts for local businesses, it is also an introduction to local open source and Linux companies, including Open Enterprise Solutions.

As I will be going through the "Concept to Capital" program through Calgary Technolgies to solicit venture capital, and along with some suggestions from Bruce Perens, I will need to be careful about the balance between a legitimate business model and the "open" model of the open source community. This is not an easy task and I will be seeking out a great deal of legal and other information from a variety of sources in the open source community. In the end I need a viable business model that venture capitalists will be willing to invest in, while maintaining good relationships with the open source community and underlying philosophy.

The reason I am mentioning all of this, and in this user group, is to maintain an open disclosure of the development of Open Enterprise Solutions and its intentions. And to demonstrate the need for careful consideration of all decisions regarding how content, including the presentation, will be distributed. At this stage I dont have all the answers, but I wanted to ensure my intentions were clear. I still have a great deal of work ahead of me.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

btw: As a courtesy, in the future please check with me when forwarding emails that I have sent to you personally.

You could definitely charge people for copy of the video on CD or VHS. No one would expect that for free but an open license on it would be a big boost. It could also help with news coverage of the event.

If you charged $50 for a VHS copy, $5 for the tape, $20 for your time to copy it, $10 for shipping and then $15 could go to the CLUG. Just what I would do, not saying that you should or any thing.

But maybe the video would be for sale, but the hard copy would be GPL. Not sure about any presentation files though, but maybe. Havent thought about that yet. But for sure the text/hardcopy would be a GPL'd document and will likely be sent to various ezines and magazines.

I have also been in touch with Bruce Perens about a possible keynote from him. Within the next few weeks I will be trying to nail down the exact date/times and will then be seeking out additional speakers. I will also be speaking with IBM and other local companies that support Open Source solutions, for sponsorship and speakers. If you would be interested in speaking on a particular topic (these still need to be determined), I have an online questionnaire setup.

There are a few other clubs for small business that are also great contacts to make. I am targeting the Rotary Club because they have direct connections with local small businesses. If you have a better recommendation please let me know.

If there is a good presentation that someone has worked on that I could use and add to then please send me a link. I am working on two web sites now that would really help with the construction of such a presentation but they are not up yet. When they are the presentation will be available form there.
