I'm sorry to hear it as well. During your tenure as moderator I have had the pleasure in seeing this list present Linux and our community as "professional" and an open and mature exchange of ideas, not as a bunch of arrested development wankers seeing who can piddle the farthest. On the bright side: lurking head-hunters and employers have had a nice chance to make note of who not to hire now ...or ever.
In the past we've certainly seen a few threads get a little out of hand, but your diplomacy has unfailingly drawn in the reigns and brought things back to where the calibre of this list spoke for itself and reflected a community I feel proud to be a part of. Whoever tries to fill your shoes, will need very big feet,...a big stick would help too. It is sad to see that this has come to require as much energy as it appears. I for one will miss you in this role, but I can also understand how it would get too much. Life's just too short.
