What we need to appoint is an anonymoderator. Sort of like how executioners used to wear hoods.... :) That way no one would get the flak.

I'm really sorry that it's taken the fun out of the list for you. I understand completely. My little forray into trying to keep posts on topic resulted in one CLUG member completely disappearing. I still feel bad about that.

I think our mailing list is getting large enough we maybe should lay down some rules to try and keep things under control. Something like:
1) moderator is god
2) if moderator declares thread OT, it is over
3) if you have problem with 2 see 1
4) if you continue an OT thread you are removed from the list

All these conversations about CCCP, Aliens, Windows 2000 shutdown, etc have got to be taking their toll on our serious linux members.

You did a great job.

I'm sorry to hear that Aaron. I have disagreed with you on a few points but I certainly feel that you did a great job. Being a moderator isn't easy and one can take alot of flak with such a role, especially when a group gets to the size of ours. Everyone has their own opinions on issues and often people, especially technically inclined people, tend to dwell on their opinions. I understand your decision but am sorry to see you go.

I think this serves as an example to those in the group that though difference in opinions should be freely debated, a professional tone should be taken. This should be followed, if not to set a good impression for lurking employers, then just out of a matter of courtesy and respect.

I would like to apologize to you myself. I think in one of my emails to you I may have come across a bit hard. I just want to let you know though that I do respect your opinions, views, and knowledge.

It is my hope that we have all learned our lesson from this and will attempt to improve in this regard.

Thanks for a good job Aaron! :-)

Best regards and a happy holiday to you and your family...

Hi all...

I have been the list moderator for some time now. I took this position on
willingly with the approval of the group (as it was then) since the list had
proven to devolve into chaotic noise without the occasional intervention of
moderation.

But the road is at an end: I am withdrawing as list moderator effective
immediately.

Why? Well....

I have grown tired of dealing with the inane attitudes, childishness and
innability of some to keep irrelevant topics off the list. I am tired of
explaining myself to newcomers who piss on me in blissful ignorance when I do
my job. I am tired of getting complaints from people asking me to control the
list more than I do, and other complaints from people saying that I am too
controling and/or only doing so to achieve my own interests. I'm tired of
writing diplomatic emails. I'm tired of taking time out from my family and
Free software hacking time to tend to the least useful additions to this
list, often only to be blamed for the original problems. I'm tired of dealing
with the lameness, ignorance and inscrutability some people bring with them.

I'm tired of it to the point of not enjoying the interaction on the list
anymore. The choice is therefore a no-brainer as I'd like to enjoy my
participation here. Someone else can do the moderating from now on.
