I see your guys points. Although Mosfet seems to have a history of
getting really pissed off over shit like this. I'm still not so clear
about why RedHat needed to make these modifications. Mosfet had
something in there about using a beta X server, but he didn't elaborate.
I think the biggest loser in this whole thing is going to be RedHat.
They should know that it's a bad thing to piss off the open source
community (something that UL hasn't learned either). It's their
credibility that's going to suffer since they promote themselves as an
open source leader. They also had major problems in their last major
version switch 7.0 which I used for a long time and it sucked. I would
have thought that this time around they would have been a little more
conservative.

I've been using RedHat 8.0 for awhile now, and I must say that I do like
it. I have had some problems compiling KDE software, but nothing major
and while I do miss some of the features of my old Mandrake system, I
cannot complain about RedHat 8.0.

I really like Mandrake, but I find some of their systems to be really
unstable. Mandrake 8.1 would always crash on me (Windows style) and it
had some strange bugs in its Gnome implementation that would create an
unusable desktop. 8.2 was rock solid! I never had a problem with it, but
I found MDK 9.0 to be just as buggy as 8.1 was. Once again it had some
strange Gnome bugs, like once in awhile Nautilus or Gnome-terminal would
max out the processor or crash the X server. The instability was the
reason that I ended up switching to RedHat 8.0, although I'd like to go
back to Mandrake some day :-).
