Hello there,

After six years I am finally planning to replace my old P1-133MHz 48MB with
something a little bit faster. Of course I am still quite impressed with the
performance; Opera 6.1 is working just fine, I can burn CD's at 40x etc.
However I want to discover the world beyond olwm...

So I'm thinking about Asus A7N8X Deluxe with Athlon XP 2400+ or 2500+. Am I
going to run into any problems with the hardware support? Is it worth paying
extra $60 for the upgrade from Thoroughbred B core to Barton?

The Nforce2 is well supported though the drivers are closed source. The interleaved memory is impressive and if you get the onboard video it comes with a GeForce 4 MX440. And yes, Barton core processors are worth the difference. Larger cache and faster front side bus.

What about the video? Are there any reasonable choices other than ATI Radeon?

If you are going with an NForce2 you might want to stick with either onboard or another GeForce Graphics card. Other than that the Radeons are cheaper and well supported.
