so not on warrently not even funny, its a p166mmx... about 6-7 years old... and was doing fine until the move.

ill get a can of compressed air (seeing as since the move, no clue whee other one is), and blow some of that in it... check the ram... video card slot....

i dont think the video cable is damaged...

one thi g i did notice, i ssh'd into the system the first time... and no bad characters appeared on my screen... would that more point towards the video card? ?so hoping so.

still doesn't explain the bad noises tho. that scares me.

Hi
This one seems like a pure HW problem. Turn it off, open the box, see if
anything has moved. Remove and reinsert the graphics adapter. While you are
at it , blow air to clean the box from the dust. Find the bios chip and press
it down with your thumb a little, just a little.
Check the outlet of the video adapter, see if their is any damage. Check
video cable for damage also.
Do all of that, ONLY if your system is out of warranty, otherwise take it to
the service.

turned it on afterwards... screen isn't aligning the 'energy star'
logo... still making odd overprints of random characters... and one of
its fans is making a bad noise...

any ideas? like graphics card or ?

okay, just recently moved... and finally got shaw cable hooked up.

so today i decided to reconnect the router, and webserver....

booted up the server.

the screen... while readaable... will "switch" characters at random...
statically... ie... when it boots up... and does ram test... it spells
things odd... but not the same everytime....

when going into linux same thing... it just over prints different
charcters... does this mean bad bios... or what?

and is there a way to fix it... im a student, so don't reallyhave tons
of cash to get it fixed.

course i do have two powermacs... any ideas if yellowdog linux will
run apache, perl php?
