is this when logging in on the console or via an XDM GUI? something i've noticed with the occasional MDK system is that logging in at the console will take FOREVER on vt1, but be almost instantaneous on any of the other vt's. way to test this is easy: when greeted with the console Login: press Alt-F2 to jump to the second vt and login there. i have no idea why this happens or what causes it, only that it's highly annoying when it does.
Nope, vt1 locks up completely (left it for over an hour) logging on as anything but root, which works normally...
As for other vt's, I cant even access them...?? Alt-F2 does nothing.
my P75 MDK 9 firewall system exhibits this behaviour, as does a friend's MDK 9.1 desktop machine. odd.
