MyDoom has been nasty to me (as I'm sure many others), mostly in 'undeliverable mail' messages from servers that have detected the virus in a spoofed address. Otherwise, even though everything 'out there' may be shutting down, I feel relatively snug in my *NIX only environment ;-). Perhaps it's time to change the protocols governing email and start properly training people to operate on the Internet. Maybe an elective course, supported by ISP's who offer reduced fees every month to individuals that have completed the course and become certified 'net ready'. This would be similar to the reductions offered by insurance companies for people who have completed drivers ed. Not to mention the benefits the ISP's themselves would experience by not getting slammed so hard everytime something like this happens.
Despite what some libertarians might say (and I would like to be able to agree with them) the Net is by no means a right that should blindly be had by all, it can be a very dangerous tool and should require a minimal amount of knowledge to have access, knowledge that obviously many people don't have.
Sorry about the rant, just kind of sick of seeing things happen that can be easily avoided if people just knew better.
