Simply because I wanted something unobtrusive, and a non computer solution. I 
basically didn't want to tie up the space, power, equipment. This was a 
relatively inexpensive solution. Sure, I could have tunred any old Pentium 
into a print server but you gotta admire the folks at Linksys (D-Link, HP, 
Lexmark, Epson,...) for making small footprint devices like this.

I believe, and correct me if I am wrong that the LinkSys PrintServer uses 
Linux anyway.

It was the best solution for me. Plus it has a built in switch and I need to 
expand my network a bit so it killed two birds with one stone. I like that.
