We are using a 3-port D-Link printer server under CUPS defined as _Remote_LPD_Queue_ using port 631, queue name "par1" and "par2" (in our case). Provides access to laser printer and colour inkjet printer from every Linux/Windos station. Works like a charm.

Hey Gang,

I just picked up a shiny new Linksys PrintServer (PSUS4) to hook my shiny new Epson Stylus Photo Colour 820 printer to and I can't seem to get it to go under Linux. Here's what I've tried and what I know.

The printer works fine connected to my workstation either through USB or Parallel. Fully supported under CUPS.

Have the print server software installed on a Windows box in my network and it prints to the PrintServer just fine.

Going through YaST, I try configuring a new printer for my SuSE workstation. Selecting Direct TCP port printing. I enter the IP and the port (in this case 631), testing remote socket gets me "The printer server is accessible", so far so good? Not quite (I did bone up on ESR's article again to see if there was any light to be shed but alas nothing seemed to apply to me).

I can select the printer and it creates the various profiles but when i go to test print from any of them, nothing is forthcoming. I'm not even sure where to begin testing this sucker. I can get into the print server through its built in web server. It will do a test print from there but that's a no brainer.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am sure that it's something dumb.

I did also try setting it up as an IPP network printer but I don't know what linksys calls their queue. I might be able to find out from the support people.
