I would tell them, in advance, about new viruses, and tell them if i can 
defend against it. Usually you can get a days notice in advance of a worm 
hitting :-) Also by checking on the hoax sites, i can tell them if it is a 
hoax they are having :-) It does take time. If one caches you off-guard, just 
gather some info about it, and find out what it was, then tell them about 
your findings. And Face-to-face is the most effective, otherwise you may want 
to have a regular/emergency IT newsletter, to give them the HUD on the 
going-on thing.
After a while, they will duck , when you call Incoming :-)
