On my installation I had to manually turn off use of FBDev and then the XServer would come to live. Here's how my video card is configured in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATi Radeon VE"
Driver "ati"
VideoRam 32768
Option "UseFBDev" "false"
EndSectionHTH,

I've got the Load "glx" and Load "dri" lines as well as the Mode 0666 line in my XF86Config file, however if I try to use the r128 driver, my X server will not start up. Any other ideas? I'm also a little confused now. What is the difference between the X.org X server and the freedesktop.org X server?
Thanks,
Jesse
