Ah.  From the GUI login, do "<CTRL><ALT>F1".  That should take you to
a console login (X is still running in the background, and you can get
back to it with "<ALT>F7").  Now, try logging in as cameron.  If that
doesn't work, login as root.

If you can't get in as cameron, and you can get in as root, then
cameron's password may need to be re-set (or maybe not; it could be
libpam and friends that are screwing up).

If you can get in as root, do the "mount" and "cat /etc/fstab" and
tell us what they say.

If you can't get in as root, it gets tricky.

Unfortunately, I'm the wrong person to ask about this.  If you can
change to using IMAP (mail is left on mailserver) instead of POP (mail
is popped off server onto your local box), then this question becomes
irrelevant since pretty near anything can get at IMAP, including
Lookout!  That would solve the mail problem real quick.
