Hi Doug,

Debian, Slackware, or Gentoo would be my suggestion... Don't install any packages you don't need (i.e. XWindows and the like). You just need to set up your network interfaces and IPTables. :-)

If you are looking for something *easy* (but not necessarily elegant) you could go with Red Hat / Fedora as there is a firewall wizard. The same goes for Mandrake, and I would imagine Suse (using YAST).

Subject: [clug-talk] Firewall Distro?
Date: Thu, 06 May 2004 12:27:11 -0600

Hey guys,

I'm looking to use an old Dell PII350 128MB, 4.3GB as a firewall between my
server and shaw. Linux is supposed to be ideal for this so I thought I'd
give it a try.

Just looking for suggestions on which distro is ideal for this purpose. I
realize that any version of linux could be used, but I'm looking for a
tailored/secure linux distro designed to be used as a firewall.

Thanks,

Doug
