Smoothwall is pretty good for a very low end machine but Clarkconnect will run nicely on those specs, in addition to that you can use it as a FTP/ File/ Mail/ Web server. Clarkconnect has quite a few more features but if you want just a stock firewall then go with Smoothwall which is very lightweight and easy to use. As someone once said, 'if it's a firewall it should just have firewall software on it, no other services for security reasons'

Hey guys,

I'm looking to use an old Dell PII350 128MB, 4.3GB as a firewall between my server and shaw. Linux is supposed to be ideal for this so I thought I'd give it a try.

Just looking for suggestions on which distro is ideal for this purpose. I realize that any version of linux could be used, but I'm looking for a tailored/secure linux distro designed to be used as a firewall.

Thanks,

Doug
