Have you tried the simple "fixdisk /mbr" yet?

It's been awhile but I seem to remember the FAT, FAT32 and NTFS storing their
partition information on the master boot record. Running "fixdisk /mbr" form a
command prompt (boot from a bootable CD/floppy) can sometimes be used to restore
corrupted partition tables. It's my understanding that it anlyzes the drive to
recreate the partition tables, so it might help in your case.

On the other hand, I've been lucky enough to not have to work at this level for some
time (or very often), so I'm sure my info may be lacking...

: I'd personally suggest starting with Ghost.
:
: Clone the entire HDD. I believe they call it a sector copy.
:
: This won't help you at all in terms of recovery, and it'll take FOREVER
(and
: this is from a stage 1 Gentoo user), but it'll allow you to PROBABLY
recover
: what you already have in the event that you make it worse. So think of
this
: as a sketchy backup of a sketchy disk. Keep that in mind. It certainly
: doesn't mean that you're safe. I'd still work from the assumption that if
: you lose the HDD, then the data is also gone. But this MIGHT help.
Maybe.
: If you're lucky.... It certainly won't hurt, and it MIGHT help. So
: personally, I'd do it.
:
: Your Mileage WILL vary.
