Hey Gang,

I apologize in advance, this may be a long one...

4) Thread hijacking; the act of clicking reply to an existing post on this list and changing the subject line to something else. Please do not do this, there are users of this list that have email clients that are able to sort messages by thread and thread hijacking messes things up for these folks. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is not a hard address to remember so if you have to type it please do so. A subtle change may be acceptable but when in doubt start a new thread. It's easier to search or filter this way.

No apologies necessary. Thanx necessary, though, for taking the time to elucidate. You can put my name down for advocating a link from our web site to the "ten commandments of emailing on clug-talk" (or 11, or 12 or whatever). I think that would be preferred to the monthly reminders. A new member to the list might be welcomed with a link to the "Rules of Order and Appropriateness" for his/her edification on their own time table.

#4 above was singled out by myself because I think it is the only one of the bunch that might enjoy a little more explanation. As I understand it, and this was a revelation to me also, simply hitting the reply button to send a new msg to the list and then changing the subject line doesn't do what it is intended to. It still gets picked up in the same thread by the list software due to headers in the addressing portion of the email that are normally not visible to the sender. So it goes out with a new subject, the sender thinks it's a new thread, but it's not, since the hidden portion of the header (which all emails have), is unchanged. I think most people (myself included, before that previous dialogue brought this info out into the daylight) were unaware of this little tidbit of information, and would not have participated in that manner if they had known. So education is ongoing and helpful for all.

I'm getting long winded so (with apologies) I'll wrap up. #4 could use a little more explanation, and the whole shebang could be placed on our web site for all to read.

Good job, Jarrod.
