One thing that you can do is take a knoppix CD with you and ask to have the laptop booted against that. It will give you a good indication if the laptop will be compatible out of the box. > My notebook is a Toshiba and with the Toshiba ACPI extensions the hardware > support is great under Linux. I purchased a Toshiba at the start of this year and overall I am very happy with it. However, that being said, I did not do enough research before I made my purchase and have since discovered that the line of laptop I have has an overheating problem. I would make sure that you google the model/make of the laptop you intend to purchase and find out if there are any hidden gotcha's with it. Lucky for me the overheating problem seems to be related to a poor heatsink design that requires a good dose of compressed air every few months. I think the buyer beware warning applies double for laptops, try not to impulse buy because it's a good price. Go home and check that the laptop will meet your needs and does not have hidden issues. -- Owen _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
