Nope you should use telnet as Mark has explained... basically you are trying to establish a connection to Telus' mail server. Telling it port 25 is telling the mail server that you are trying to connect to the SMTP service. If you can successfully connect then you know that your machine can talk to the mail server and your problem lies elsewhere. This is a good first step, you can configure Kmail till you are blue in the face but if you have firewall software or something preventing your machine from getting to their mail server it will not work even if the settings are correct.
