I'm not sure if there's a fix or not, you might want to check through the ubuntu-users archives (don't subscribe!! it's a firehose at 300+ emails a day!) to see if there is or not. A work-around is to use <alt>+LMB to move the dialogue box or application up to get at the buttons. HTH, Myles -- You will always have good luck in your personal affairs.
