I use a handy program called unison to keep important files in sync and
backed up.

Of course I do not particularly care about my /home partition as much of
the stuff is useless when switching distros anyway.  I only care about
one directory that I store my docs/important files in.

As for resizing reiserfs, I use parted from the command line for most of
my drive partitioning needs.  The drive cannot be mounted while you are
working on it, so this should be done from, say a knoppix cd.
